When we all first started exploring the World Wide Web, none of us really knew what we were getting into. We were all vaguely aware of the possibilities of what we could do, but it probably took most of us some time to truly understand the magical powers of the internet.
We saw a lot of memes growing up, and there were countless that we sadly don't remember anymore, but we remember when we became aware of what a meme is, and that was when Nyan Cat rose to fame. Up until this colorful cat drove the internet crazy, we were exposed to all kinds of funny posts and viral images, but Nyan Cat was the first product of the internet that made us think, 'Oh, this is a viral meme.'
This cat was everywhere. YouTube was full of videos of versions of this animated cartoon cat, the song was playing everywhere, and a million different inspired posts and art of it were circulating on the internet at every given moment.
We were genuinely experiencing history being made live on the internet.
After this phenomenon, we were a lot more aware of memes and their power online. Other famous cats and dogs, like Grumpy Cat and Doge, continued the legacy of Nyan Cat and truly made our time spent on the internet that much better. Every day since, we have honored and explored the way memes improve our lives, and make the internet the fun place it could be for every single person in the world.
