Well, that's one way to hitchhike.
Have you ever hitchhiked? You know, when you stick your thumb in the air and try to get a ride from a stranger. You could be going a mile down the road, and you could need to ride for days. It used to be all the rage in the Beatnik Era, when writers like Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg were determined to experiment and experience the world through the eyes of nomadism. They were masters at using their sense of rebellion for artistic development, and implanting untraditional values to the surface of modern culture. These days, we're not sure how much people use it, but maybe cats are using it the way old writers did!
The cat in the story thought to hitch a ride the old fashioned way. Instead of putting her paw up, she decided to be a stowaway, the way they used to do it! The driver, a man simply on his way to Home Depot, smelt something funny on the drive. He pulled over and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. He parks, does his shopping, but when he comes back, there's a group of people surrounding his car. They claim there's a cat under his hood! Surprised, he's able to tear the clinging kitty out from the area, and can properly access her state.
She's wounded and not her best, so he decided to take her home. It pains him to think about leaving her all alone in a busy parking lot off of a busy street. Though he has already two cats and recently lost his 3rd, he can't feel like he's replacing his old cat. He's at a catch 22; he doesn't want a third, but he doesn't want to just give the cat to a random person, or put her back on the street.
After working hard to heal her at home, caring for her, and repairing her wounds, he is patient about finding her the best furrever home for her. He seeks advice from the internet, but through his patience is able to keep her in the meantime. This ephemeral period of having her is good for the both of them. Stories like these that thrive on wholesome, goodhearted humans, are really the bread and butter of 2026. Read the full story below for all the details about the cat, the ride, and the man who saved her.
