The new year brings pawsitive vibes. Last year felt like a blur, and now, we've woken up in a different timeline. Imagine our pups knew what time was? They don't even know what color their noses are. But imagine?! That'd be pretty cool.
If there's one thing I've learned from growing up with four dogs in a small home in Brooklyn, it's that dogs will do whatever they can to make sure they're comfortable. This is topical solely because the winter season is famously cold (who knew), and our dogs cannot fathom a universe in which they are not 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. They'll put their snouts between the top sheet and the comforter so they can feel like a marshmallow between two graham crackers, s'more-style. My cat couldn't care less about the frigid temperatures; he honestly prefers it. He sits on the windowsill on the coldest days, hoping a paw-raying that I crack it just enough so his little black and pink nose can fit into the crack. Can we blame them? We all need some fresh air sometimes.
It's crucial to keep the good vibes rolling this January. The winter months are daunting and prompt us to stay cooped up inside like little chickens in a roost or grizzlies in a state of hibernation. The difference? Animals don't have to go to work in sub-zero temperatures and subsequently go grocery shopping at Trader Joe's after work. If you've ever done that, you know it feels like war. Hoomans are plagued with a life of constants, when all we'd rather do is curl up with Fido and friends in a big, fluffy blanket. Dogs really don't know how good they have it…
Even still, it's our jobs to ensure the precious pups get exactly what they need, 110% of the time. We hoomans might have our envious moments, but it's only because we want to spend every waking moment with our unconditionally loved furry friends. This year, remind yourself that if no one's got you, at least your doggo's got you. I might make that my mantra of the year… 2026: The Year of the Doggo.
