No one likes waking up Monday morning for work, but we all do it. The beeping of the alarm, the realization that you didn't get as much sleep as you wanted, and the meowing of your cat just to put the cherry on top of being overstimulated at 7 am. But if we're being honest, the meowing of your purrfect prince or princess is not the problem. Most cat pawrents are happy to wake up to their meowing loves, full of unconditional devotion for a furball who lives rent free while they're forced to work. At I Can Has Cheezburger, we love to wake up to the meowing of cats.
In fact, that early-morning siren call is what gets us out of bed more than our alarm. The lilt in our cat's meow, the vibration of purrs, it can all contribute to motivating us far more than an alarm. It's the insistence that if you don't get up you won't be able to take care of your kitty. No matter how much you want to stay in bed, your cat will make sure you get up and out for the day. Cats don't care about meetings, deadlines, or inboxes overflowing before breakfast. They care that it is morning, that you exist, and that this moment deserves acknowledgment — preferably in the form of food, attention, or a dramatic stretch across the bed.
There is something comforting about being woken up by a creature whose priorities are so refreshingly clear. They work on pure instinct, and never let something disturb them from doing what they want to do. While you stumble through Monday in a fog of obligations, cats greet the day with confidence, entitlement, and a remarkable lack of shame. They remind their humans, with a single well-timed meow, that comfort and connection still exist, even on the least forgiving mornings. At least you know you can easily go home to them for after work cuddles, snuggles, and kisses. You can even scroll cat memes together! As long as your cat doesn't get too jealous about you looking at photos of other cats. We hear that cats can be quite…catty.
