Going to work during the week between Christmas and New Year's means that every single conversation people are having is either about Christmas or (you guessed it) New Year's.
First, everyone shares the details about their Christmas–where they were, what they ate, what Christmas presents they received, and what they bought their loved ones. Then the conversation shifts to how badly people want to go back to Christmas, and how no one wants to actually work during those days when we all still suffer from the after-Christmas haze. Then, after the word Christmas has been said thousands of times around the office, people have no choice but to switch the topic of conversation to the upcoming New Year's Eve. Everyone is then forced to share their plans for the evening, whether they have them or not.
This is a safe place to admit that you have absolutely no plans for the New Year's celebration, because neither do we. For us, New Year's Eve is great in theory, but it never ends up being as fun as we expect it to be. It's too cold, too crowded, and simply too much. We would much rather welcome the new year in the comfort of our own home, with a good movie, our fluffy felines, and maybe some takeout. So that is exactly what we plan to do.
However, these "plans" are not what people in the office are looking for, and everyone usually has much crazier things going on than hanging out with their cats in bed. That usually compels us to make something up so we appear much cooler than we actually are. This year, we decided we are not going to do that. We are mature enough to admit that the ideal night in our eyes is a quiet one at home, and we refuse to be ashamed of that. In fact, we are pretty excited for the evening; we even got those 2026 glasses for our cats, so we can do a little photoshoot at home while waiting for midnight to arrive.
Another fun activity we plan for the New Year is scrolling through the collection of hisstercial cat memes down below, which are sure to give anyone the best start to the new year. So keep scrolling to enjoy those, and we will see you next year!
