As several folks in the comments section of this online community suggested, it's worth it for this team to document everything they do.
Here's a potential plan for them moving forward.
At the next presentation, they should be prepared to speak on the aspects of the slideshow that were directly taken from their work. They should prepare follow-up questions. Perhaps they should even create holes in their research to make their coworker look bad.
Don't show decorum during the presentation. Don't wait to ask questions in the end. Point out every flaw and every hole in his research as his remarks are delivered. If this dude could not show enough respect to give you credit for your efforts, then you shouldn't have to sit there in silence and let him speak with authority on matters he doesn't fully understand himself.
Not allowing others to be rewarded for their hard work should be a red flag for one's presence within any company culture. If you can't fathom letting others on your team succeed, then you shouldn't have a job that involves being on a team at all. Either get over yourself and learn how to collaborate, or don't collaborate at all!
