Am I Wrong for telling my older sister she can’t bring her “emotionally unpredictable” cat to my apartment anymore?

My sister visits me a lot and always brings her cat because she claims he gets "anxiety" if he's left home alone. Fine. Whatever. But this cat is... unhinged.

He knocks over every drink, climbs into cabinets, bites cords, screams at 3am, and once somehow opened my fridge and dragged out a pack of deli meat like a raccoon.
  • 04
Last weekend he knocked over a glass and it shattered everywhere. My sister said, "He's just anxious" I said, "He's chaos." She got mad.

I finally told her she needs to leave the cat at home next time. She said I'm "punishing an innocent animal for having emotions.

S... 15h ago Edited 15h ago you are absolutely allowed to ban someone from bringing over their destructive pet. not wrong.

my one cat prefers to travel with me and is a very good boy. my other cat is a tasmanian devil who does not come anywhere (granted, like most cats, she is much more comfortable staying home anyway). I would not subject to someones home to her wildness.

. Judge Joan 15h ago Cats don't like to travel. I'm sure he'd love some peace and quiet at home without her. Remind her it's not a dog and she's probably the one creating this mess by causing her cat to be unsettled.

grayblue_grrl • 15h ago SHE and her cat are causing you anxiety. They can stay at her house. You are NOT WRONG.

Dogs NCoffeeAddict 15h ago The real reason she wont leave him home is because she doesn't want him destroying her place and getting hurt.

catlady921 • 15h ago How does this even work? Do you keep a litter box and food at your place for the cat? Does she bring those?
  • 13
She is probably making this poor cat a nervous wreck by forcing the cat to travel everywhere with her. You are not wrong at all.

Messterio 15h ago . Poor cat is stressed to fuck when visiting you, your sister is actually causing it by bringing it with her. NW but your sister is for blaming her cat's anxiety on anyone but herself.

traciw67 15h ago Nw. The cat is probably acting up because he is in an unfamiliar setting. Cats like to be home. She's being very selfish and is stressing out the poor cat. She's a bad owner.

Natenat04 • 15h ago . In NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, is anyone wrong for not wanting undisciplined, or chaotic animals in their hime that is supposed to be your place of peace.

The only people upset when you put boundaries up, are the ones benefiting from you not having any, and who take advantage of you.
  • 19
tarbearjean 15h ago Not wrong. Some cats do genuinely get separation anxiety but unfamiliar settings can also be a huge stressor. It's a tricky situation for her but she can't make it your problem. Can she stay.

at a pet friendly hotel or Airbnb? Can she keep the cat locked in her room with her at night? Can she get a two way camera so she can check on the cat while she's gone? Or better yet a cat sitter? Lots of alternatives here.

FrauAgrippa 15h ago Your sister sounds like an overall terrible pet owner. If her cat has anxiety when it's left alone that's because she isn't providing it with the correct enrichment. If it actually has an anxiety disorder then she isn't providing it with the correct environment or medication to mitigate that either.

Some cats love to travel, but your sister's claim here is This is just an untrained, unruly cat that is likely suffering from constant anxiety due to zero environmental regulation from its territory being constantly uprooted.

There's no need to allow this cat in your home, and, tbh, if it were my sister I would call her ass out for being a horrible cat owner who clearly knows nothing about feline temperament.
