Where were you on Black Friday in the early 2000s? Did your family make a tradition out of camping out, hoping to be the first in line to grab up the latest tech or shoe? What flows through the air on Black Friday needs to be studied, or at least, it should've been years ago.
Black Friday just doesn't hit the same anymore. What used to fill consumers with fervor barely makes them get up off the couch after their Thanksgiving feast. Where there was once a line wrapped around the block, tumbleweeds take their place. A lot of you are probably thinking that the absence of a consumer-forward holiday is exactly what this country needs, which I would agree with. But, it's not that the holiday doesn't exist, it's that it takes place on Cyber Monday instead.
We don't even have to leave the comfort of our own bed in order to catch the minuscule sales major companies are having. 90% off? I've never heard of her. We're doing sticker price, then tricking consumers that there was a sale when there wasn't. It's the name of the game, apparently, and consumption is a disease. We're all down with the sickness, but it just used to be a bit more fun.
