21-year-old woman clashes with her boyfriend’s overbearing mom, who constantly cleans, reorganizes, and treats their apartment like her own, she finally confronts her, causing relationship drama: 'I feel like the place I pay for doesn't belong to me'

Most people would love to have someone to clean up their 'mess' after them…but when that person is your boyfriend's overbearing mother, we could see how things might get complicated! This girlfriend is feeling frustrated by her boyfriend's mom's overwhelming presence in their home. She comes into their apartment and starts making minor renovations as if she's the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. But what really caught this girlfriend off guard was waking up to her boyfriend's mother, cleaning and rearranging their whole apartment without the couple's permission. We're starting to understand why she feels like her home is not really hers…Because she has another woman controlling the space.

It's kind of like being thirteen again. Your room may be an astronomical mess, but it's your astronomical mess. You know where every CD has fallen under, which part of the bed, exactly which pile of clothes your earphones hide under, and exactly how to navigate each crevice of your personal maze! And when your mom would enter one day, while you're away at school, and clean up everything…it basically meant that your strategic mess was completely botched! No longer feeling like the space belonged to you!

As annoying as it may be, especially for an adult couple living together, we are sure that his mother's intentions are pure. Instead, they simply lack boundaries. But snapping at his mother is not the best anecdote for their relationship in the long run. Perhaps she could try having an honest conversation with her boyfriend? Letting him be the ‘bad guy’ instead of making enemies with her potential mother-in-law…
