For retail workers, sleigh bells have been ringing since October 31st. While the maddening siren songs of the holidays may feel festive and upbeat to most mall patrons, it's the dreaded soundtrack to a depraved retail worker's darkest hour.
The holiday season is the busiest time of the year for many boutiques, shops, and mini markets, but profit margins hardly matter to the minimum wage workers forced to deal with rage-driven Karens, flu-ridden families, and etiquette-free shoppers on a stress-bound warpath to "the perfect gift." This hullabaloo may seem silly because it absolutely is, and retail employees are the boots on the ground managing society's collective mania.
Unsung heroes reorganize tattered shelves, check the back stock for sizes, and wrap up presents with care.
And with the voice of Mariah Carey on repeat in their heads, retail workers will do anything to get through the holidays, even if that means taking an early lunch, hiding in the bathroom, or fantasizing about quitting. Don't worry, darling, it's not the end of the world, it's just retail; you'll get through this, one glittery, merry day at a time.
