Ghostbusters is one of the greatest movies ever made, full stop. It is lightning in a bottle, a perfect mix of comedy, supernatural weirdness, Bill Murray doing Bill Murray things, and a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man stomping through New York like it's no big deal. Ghostbusters 2… look, I have a soft spot for it, mostly because I adore the cast, but we can be honest with each other. The story is rough. The mood slime is rough. Vigo is rough. It's a sequel that exists because the characters are too lovable not to follow, not because the story demanded a second chapter.
Then came Ghostbusters: Afterlife. And you know what? It was pretty decent. It didn't try to copy the tone of the original because you simply can't. Instead it leaned into the modern "family moves to a weird town and everything gets spooky but also cute" vibe. It was Stranger Things with proton packs, but made with so much love and respect for the original that fans couldn't help but smile. It felt like a studio saying, "We know we can't remake Ghostbusters so let's make you feel something instead."
These behind the scenes photos make that even clearer. You can see the joy on set, the nostalgia in every prop, and the genuine excitement the cast had while bringing the Ghostbusters universe to a new generation. From practical effects to dusty proton packs to Paul Rudd looking like a kid in a candy store, this is a peak comfort movie production. If the original Ghostbusters was pure comedic chaos, Afterlife was the heartfelt thank you note.
