    HOA demands neighbor to pay $2,500 in landscaping costs for area outside of her property, she threatens to take them to court: 'They could not enforce any action!'

    Homeowner's associations may get away with a lot, but if you know your bylaws, you just might be able to successfully challenge them.

    This author noticed that one day, seemingly out of nowhere, his local HOA decided that it was going to take on the project of cleaning up areas in the neighborhood that were shared properties among the residents in that area. The problem was that the board members weren't planning on using the existing monthly HOA fees to pay for this landscaping. They were trying to put the costs on individual residents and trick them into paying for renovations that were technically not their private property.

    Not only was this scheme incredibly shady, but it also relied on the ignorance of the residents living in that neighborhood. This plot assumed that these folks were not going to double or triple check if they were actually obligated to foot the bill for these costs. It was as if these entitled HOA board members also assumed that neighbors were not going to check with one another if this was fair. Well, they underestimated the residents, and one neighbor, in particular, was able to get them to back down.
