College students often wind up in jobs or internships that don't treat them in the proper ways they deserve. Since these kids are young and don't know any better, workplaces are happy to take advantage of their strong work ethic and lack of workplace boundaries. Young workers don't always feel comfortable saying no to a coworker who pushes their work onto them, or to a boss who insists they work overtime without pay. They think that's is normal in the business world (which it may be, but when you're older, you might know better, and push back on these behaviors).

This boss is also a prime example of why ordinary workers shouldn't be in charge of hiring and firing processes. If your manager can't hire some random person on the spot, why would they be given the task of letting someone go in that same way? Firing a worker can be a very emotional moment, and the person doing the firing needs to be prepared for outbursts and numerous questions about what the future holds.
