We also plan our evenings with the dog in mind. Now, that being said, we don't follow these rules like they are the law, but we know that around 6 PM we need to start heading home to take her out for her evening walk and feed her dinner. It's not like we're never late, but there's a big difference in the amount of flexibility you're willing to give.

In a perfect world, we would love to take our dog with us everywhere. We've said that time and time again. But, there are occasions where it's better to leave the dog at home. They won't miss picking up your wife's mom from the airport or going to the grocery store. They can rest at home, and then be excited when you come back. That's perfectly okay.
