Welcome, little latchkey kids. Ah, the 80s… what a time to be alive! My mom was a child then, which means I was nothing more than a vague idea somewhere between her Cabbage Patch doll and a Trapper Keeper doodle. My mental image of the decade was pieced together from the movies she showed me growing up: Labyrinth, The NeverEnding Story, and other wonderfully weird classics that made the era feel like pure fantasy.
Over time, old family photos rife with perms, acid wash denim on denim outfits, and questionable wallpaper filled in some of the blanks. Then Stranger Things came out, and the 80s got a dose of realism. Turns out household interiors weren't neon; they were brown. And kids really did just… roam around until the lights came on.
Still, no movie or TV should ever actually capture what it was like to be there. If you grew up in the 80s (or wish you had), these snapshots are your one-way ticket to memory lane.
