29 and 30-year-old fiancées give controlling in-laws back $26,000 in wedding money: 'The money wasn't worth it'

This couple is not going to let their in-laws control their wedding planning anymore, and they've given back a huge chunk of money to prove it. 

Until you go to plan your own wedding, you could never imagine how much coordination, money, and effort go into making such an event happen. Even having a tiny wedding — like this couple, who are hosting just 11 people — can cost a small fortune. Some couples take out loans, some rely on guests to help fund their expenses, and others look to their parents to pay for the big day. 

This couple is not enjoying their parents' involvement with the wedding, though. Both sets of parents pitched in £10,000, which roughly translates to $26,855 in US dollars. That's a great start to a wedding day, and it could pay for some of the food, music, event space, invites, and more. But the Moms and Dads of these two brides-to-be have started holding the money over their heads. While these women try to plan their dream wedding day, they're realizing that this money comes with strings attached, and they're not having it. 

They were truly so polite to their parents when returning the money. As they detailed below, they took them to dinner and explained that they already knew exactly how they wanted their wedding to go, and although they were grateful for this cash infusion, they couldn't accept money with strings attached. The parents made this all about themselves — both mothers burst into tears! The parents really need a reality check, because they're just upsetting the couple, and they're not going to get their way, whether they give a big cash gift or not.
