At a Toddler Petting Zoo event today, waiting patiently in line (I was next after waiting) and everyone's toddler was fussing a little including mine.

Right when it's our turn, a toddler pushes past me and up to the area for the photo op we were waiting for.

I turn around to see the grandma 3 families back and she says "oh I'm so sorry!" But makes NO moves to grab her as the child starts touching things.

I say, "No problem, totally normal for a toddler! I'll just wait a sec for you to grab her so that my child doesn't get distracted when we go up" The woman starts to move slowly passed me (I'm 8 months pregnant also trying to contain my toddler while he gets impatient since we were next and we've been practicing waiting...struggle bus) and as she's doing it she's looking down at her phone swiping out her camera.

She stands in front of the toddler, not grabbing her, and holds up her phone to say to me "Can I just snap her photos since I'm up here?" I say back to her "Well that wouldn't be fair since there's a line and we're teaching our toddlers how to wait in line.

This woman then scoffed at me and slowly grabbed her grandkid while mumbling under her breath and constantly making huffing noises while walking slower than death back to the line.

I then said sweetly, "Thank you! We wouldn't want this generation to grow up thinking they're entitled not to wait in line just because they don't feel like it!" Not sure if it's my hormones this late in the game or just the audacity that triggered me.

The mom was so apologetic and I laughed it off and said that's been my kid too, they're toddlers.

So I feel like it can't just be my hormones raging and has to be the audacity

OP Infinite-Sherbert988 Thank you! I was a teacher before SAHM and I feel like I use my teacher voice on other adults instead of kids more often

MoonandStars83 The cynic in me thinks grandma 100% sent the kid up there so they could cut the line.

OP Infinite-Sherbert988 My husband thinks the same! Honestly I could se either, I know my child has run up to a character at sesame place before his turn before and I've had to run to grab him to get back in line. But her pulling out her phone makes me think

OP Infinite-Sherbert988 Thank you! My husband thinks I was just being hormonal pregnant lady but I feel like I can't have my toddler see me put up with that.

Smart-Vermicelli4069 You were polite and explained why it was wrong but stood your ground. I have a feeling your kids are going to grow up to be good people.

OP Infinite-Sherbert988 Thank you I had someone ask why my child was having a hard time waiting in line the other day and it made me feel like I wasn't doing enough but I'm literally trying to put in the work and practice.

Friendly-Channel-480 I hope you stay in touch with your hormones forever!

SofaSoGood1010 You handled that way better than most people would've in the moment, especially being 8. months pregnant and wrangling your own toddler. There's a huge difference between normal toddler chaos (which you clearly get) and an adult deciding the rules don't apply to them. You were absolutely right to stand your ground-it's not about the photo, it's about modeling patience and respect for everyone in line. Good on you for calling it out politely but firmly.

dcars714 Great job! You were able to explain what manners are to two generations!

Lucky-Effective-1564 I just read "toddler petting zoo" as a zoo where you pet toddlers. I think I need to step away from the computer.

BLUNTandtruthful58 Your response to them is perfectly epic and Justified ✓ Here's an add-on "so you're fine teaching your toddler about entitlement and it's a bad thing to be patient, take your entitled faux princess self to the part of the line you were just in and be patient like everyone else is being
