    Money is one of those things that can slowly destroy a relationship when there is no communication around it. You can love someone with your whole heart, but when only one person is carrying the weight of rent and bills, resentment starts to creep in. It isn't even really about the money itself, it's about fairness, effort, and whether or not you both see the relationship as an equal partnership.

    Now, every couple has a different way of distributing their financial responsibility. Some couples split everything down the middle and Venmo each other for the smallest of purchases. Others split things up based on who makes more money; others simply pool their money together. There really is no right or wrong way to go about it as long as everyone is communicating because when one partner feels like they're being taken advantage of, things start to go sideways quickly.

    That's exactly what's going on with one 24-year-old. When he and his girlfriend first moved in together, she was between jobs, so he told her not to worry about rent until she got back on her feet. Months later, she's working full time and making decent money, but she hasn't actually paid a dime towards housing. When he finally confronted her, telling her that it was time to split the rent, she lashed out, called him greedy, and even told her friends that he was a cheapskate despite quite literally funding her lifestyle for the better part of a year!
