Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. Sometimes something will happen in your life that seems ripped right from the pages of a science fiction novel. For instance, I keep seeing ads on the subway for an AI companion called "friend." I haven't looked into it, but it seems too weird to be true. What do you mean there's a robot that I can wear around my neck to everyday interactions? Honestly, I have no interest in trying out this technology, seeing as I have real-life friends, but it does make me feel like I'm in the movie Her. Spike Jonze didn't know how on the nose his work would become in such a short amount of time.

The 21st century is a lot to behold. Technology moves at such a pace that most of us can't keep up with it. Things have changed so much, even over the course of my short life, that it's hard to wrap my head around. I'm still getting used to being able to listen to music in the shower. This is why sci-fi is important. Sci-fi shows us how to interact with new technology.
