Employee calls out coworker for stealing her ideas in company-wide meeting, brings receipts: 'Amy's face went from triumphant to pale to comically flustered in under 30 seconds'

We have all been in situations where someone else claims your idea as their own. Sometimes, it can be as minor as a hot take about a celebrity that you suddenly hear repeated back to you by your friend weeks after you introduced the same argument to them. 

Other times, the stakes can be a lot higher. For instance, I'll never forget practicing a presentation for a group project in middle school with a few of my classmates. We each shared our own individual scripts for our respective slides, and I had practiced my slides in front of my fellow group project members. Clearly, one of my points made an impact because 30 minutes later, my classmate made the exact same point during our presentation when he was presenting his slide, which was conveniently before mine. Luckily, I knew the material and was able to pivot to find something else that was interesting to share when it was my turn. Still, it was probably the first time I felt like my own hard work was being used against me.

This experience shaped how I collaborate with teammates, so I have a lot of empathy for this author. They felt that their coworker Amy was routinely taking credit for their work and impressing upper management along the way. So, they decided to provide proof that all these well-constructed ideas and plans were actually theirs and not Amy's. This is where email documentation and log times proved to be especially useful. By the time Amy gave her next big presentation at a company-wide meeting, the author was prepared to take her down.
