Neighbors feud after homeowner refuses stranger's request to use his yard for her wedding reception: 'She grew up in my house'

Once you hand over your house keys to the new owner, you also surrender your claim to the space. But what happens when the previous owner comes knocking?

That was the dilemma faced by a homeowner who recently declined a young woman's unusual request. After growing up in the house and falling in love in its backyard, she asked if she could host her wedding reception there. She offered to pay, but the current owner, who had spent 15 years transforming the yard into a berry patch and rose bush haven, refused.

The woman reportedly cried, neighbors gossiped, and a reputation for "being nasty" was born (though one might argue that declining to lend your private property to a stranger's 200-guest party is less nasty and more common sense).

When I was a teen, a stranger appeared at my childhood home claiming he had lived there before us and asked my parents for a tour to see how it had changed. The irony was that my family was the first residents, so his request became utterly creepy very fast.
