Friendship red flags are often overlooked, especially in our adolescence. With the voice of our overprotective parents still echoing in our minds about friends becoming a "bad influence," young adults tend to ignore serious character flaws in their friend group. However, this group of university students was wise beyond their years when they realized that something was a bit off about their friend, Suzanne.
Although they knew she was self-centered, brazen, and sometimes overly confident, they initially brushed off her quirkiness as a part of her personality, but then they realized the truth. Straight out of the Trader Joe's checkout line, this group of gals found an unexpected item in their grocery store bagging area: An extremely entitled and embarrassingly impolite friend.
Bad influence or not, Suzanne proved that she wasn't the type of person to hang around with anymore, and after the grocery store incident, her true colors were revealed. Perhaps Mom was right when she weeded out the friendships we fostered in our youth, because she didn't want us to end up a line-cutting, sushi-stealing, gravitationally selfish, and borderline sociopathic friend.
Thanks for that, Mom; I owe you one.
