The parents asked their daughter to come pick them up from the airport (after she also drove them there and took care of everything while they were gone, mind you). She initially agreed, but when they started berating her for making them wait 30 minutes, she took back her offered favor and told them to get a taxi instead.

If parents are genuinely grateful for the help you are offering, understanding that you are spending time and effort to come to their aid, that makes it all worthwhile. But if they act as if you owe them these favors, and become so entitled and demanding towards you, these favors will definitely not last.
