    Single dad prioritizes 7-year-old son's birthday over a date night with his fiancée, breaks off engagement in response to her entitled reaction: 'She'll forever be my second priority'

    Anyone who has dated a single parent knows that you're stepping into a dynamic where the child always comes first. That doesn't mean that there is less love for the partners, just that there is a different kind of responsibility. A close aunt once told me, after her divorce, that dating again feels like constantly balancing two worlds. One one hand, she always wanted to give everything to her daughter, but she also wanted to prove to a new partner that they mattered as well. It's a really tough balance, and sometimes these two sides collide in dramatic ways.

    In our story today, one man finds himself caught between two important commitments on the same day: his 7-year-old son's birthday party and a surprise date night that his fiancée had been planning for weeks. When he ended up choosing the birthday, his fiancée accused him of putting her second and still being "tied down by the past." And well, she wasn't wrong on the former; his son is and will always be his number one priority. She was wrong on the latter, though; hisvson isn't his past, he's his present and future. And if she's not okay with that, then he's ready to make room for someone who is!
