Some folks might think that families share everything. That if it's in the family, it's yours. This can be true in a spiritual sense. Maybe you share a system of values or a moral backbone or a sense of togetherness. But that doesn't mean your sister can steal your necklace and sell it for cash without some amount of recourse. This is not how family helps family. Family helps family by swooping in during times of need and assisting where they can, with time, love, and sometimes a little financial help. But this has to be done with consent from both parties; you can't just go assuming that their money belongs to you. This is stealing, and it doesn't matter if they're your family members or not; it's wrong.

This even goes for parent-child relationships. Just because you raised someone doesn't mean you're entitled to all their assets in perpetuity. They still get to have the stuff that they own. Maybe you expect them to help you out as you get older, but again, this needs to be done with the consent of everyone involved.
