Adult relationships often involve expectations regarding both those things: being an adult and being in a partnership. Now, that may sound obvious, but let us unpack it for one second. Being an adult means that oftentimes you have to be independent, you are no longer spoon-fed by your mother, and are required to take responsibility for the things you want. If you are hungry, you can go to the grocery store and whip yourself up a nice, easy lunch. If your clothes are dirty, you can walk over to the washing machine, press a few buttons, and voilà, problem solved.

Now, a relationship often means caring for another person, and for many individuals, their love language may be acts of service. If you're making a cup of tea before bed, you'd likely want to make one for your partner, or if you are at the store and know they've really been craving steak and fries for dinner, and you decide to surprise them with it, because that's how you show your love! However, a balance between the two things is important, especially during a marriage, as many things become expected or another person out of habit. Yet, it is important to still remember that you are still capable of doing things for yourself, even if it may feel foreign to some people…
