The best thing about having a part-time job? You can use the rest of your time doing whatever you want, including getting another job, because we all know that part-time work doesn't keep the Wi-Fi bill paid and DoorDash delivery flowing. The bank employee in this next story explains that he wanted to use his days off working at a daycare, but his boss from the bank insists he must be on-call, regardless of whether he is on schedule or not. Yes, that means he is not being paid for his precious time. Commenters insist that this is illegal, in addition to the daycare.
So many bosses believe they have this weird, all-powerful entitlement to what their employees do after hours and off the clock. If you haven't noticed, crooked bosses of the world, if employees are not on schedule, this means they are not expected to dedicate time to work—yes, that includes keeping their calendar open if someone calls out. Aren't bosses the ones who are supposed to be working in place of an employee who calls out? Not the other employees' circuses, nor is it their monkeys.
