Widower pressures his 2nd wife to name their newborn after his late wife and late daughter, gets angry when she refuses: 'I don't want my kid to have the same name as the woman I'm always compared to'

Nobody wants to live in anybody's shadow. I've heard so many sad stories of kids whose parents lost a pregnancy and spent the rest of their lives unable to get over that loss, bringing up their late child at every birthday party and memorable event that their living child ever had. These parents freak out when their kid doesn't want to have a special tribute to the sibling they never knew at their wedding. There's a difference between never forgetting those we've lost and making those who are still around feel like they'll never live up to the incredibly high standards set by a person who never got much of a life to live.

Naming a child after a loved and lost relative can be a beautiful way of keeping their legacy alive. For most families, there's nothing objectionable about giving your daughter her grandmother's name as a middle name. There are always exceptions to this rule…if the grandma in question hates her son-in-law and does everything in her power to avoid spending time with him, she might not be the most fitting tribute. Any self-respecting spouse would not allow their child to be named after a family member who hates them.

The woman in this story is in a pickle. Her husband wants to name their baby after the wife and child he lost in childbirth 8 years ago. He didn't merely suggest it; he's heavily pressuring his wife to use that name despite her discomfort with it.
