When moving into a new apartment, it is important, as cat owners, to find out whether the place allows you to have cats or not. You don't want to hide your cat from your landlord, not even if it is so that you could avoid paying pet rent, which yes, it a ridiculous concept. If they don't want cats in their apartments, fine. If they want you to pay for the cats, it's up to you to decide whether you're willing to live there under those conditions.
