    'I guess he’s mine now': Stray cat shows up at woman's door, asking to be adopted, after 2 weeks of no one coming to take him, she finally decides to give him the warm home he deserves

    We think that at this point, it is safe to say that it is a fact that cats adopt humans and not the other way around. It is certainly accepted as a fact in the cat community. The outside world still gets surprised by this. People who don't know cats are surprised when cats choose to adopt them out of nowhere, but it does happen - all the time. People who hate cats get adopted by cats, people who have never wanted cats get adopted by them. It happens every day, to the point that sometimes you wonder if cats are only adopting people who dislike them. When is it going to be our chance?

    But that is not true, as this case proves. Sometimes, you, the cat person, have some luck too. And as much as this person was not expecting to get adopted by a cat right now, one thing that we are sure of is that they feel 100% honored and happy about it.

      I live in an apartment complex and have one female who is spayed and indoor only. On the morning of august 1st | heard meowing outside and went to take a look, only to find this male kitty literally at my door and wanting to come in. He was very friendly and receptive to pets and had no collar.

      That day I took him to my vet to check for a chip and do a quick exam. Vet confirmed he wasn't neutered, and as he had no chip I had them also test him for FIV and FeLV which were both negative. I started posting about him to see if he had an owner. Well, 2 weeks went by and nothing.

      He got neutered and chipped last Tuesday along with a first round of vaccines. He has a slightly longer recovery because he was a cryptorchid, but should still be good in just over another week from now. Bonus pic of him and my first cat (left).

    • We find it amazing how good cats are at choosing people for themselves. We don't know how he knew, but he clearly did know that this is going to be a good home for him, not only with a good owner but with a kitty sibling who is so, so similar to him.

    • We are not worried, not in the slightest. This is clearly a match made in the cat distribution system. We can't know how long it will take, but we know for a fact that these two will be best buds before you know it. The only thing we ask of you is… that you'll update us with a picture when that finally happens.

      FormidableMistress Is it just me or is there something weird about attracting a cat the same coloring as a cat you already have? I ended up with 4 piebald cats from the CDS. There are no other piebald cats in the neighborhood, they all came to my house.

      Demi 180 OP Yeah I think he was a stray, he was so dirty my hands were slightly black after petting him at first. I thought he had a home because of how friendly he is and he knew how to use a litter box right away, but nobody ever tried to claim him.

      Demi180 OP Oh I did on day 1, he was constantly scratching. They cleaned and treated him and literally no more scratching the next day.

      Demi180 OP Yeah, I was surprised he was right there. He probably smelled my cat even though she's been spayed all along. He stalks her and tries to sniff her bot, and comes right up to her litter box and puts his face to the flap while she's in it.
