In my childhood home, we had this low-budget projector in the basement. We'd turn off all the lights so it was pitch black and it felt like we were in an actual movie theater. That's where my dad decided it was a good idea to show me Alien at way too young an age. I had never seen a horror movie before, though, depending on who you ask, maybe it's sci-fi first and horror second. But if you also have that image permanently burned into your brain of the xenomorph slinking across the screen, you'd probably call it horror too.

Fast-forward 20 years, and here I am, willingly reopening old wounds by watching the new series, Alien: Earth. The show takes us to 2120, two years before Ripley's original nightmare, expanding the franchise back onto our turf, Earth. It's got cyborgs, hybrids, and one hybrid girl, Wendy, who wakes up just in time to face a terrifying new alien threat. Early reviews say it's bold and genuinely scary, with the kind of body horror that sticks with you. There's even a creepy eyeball monster that's already haunting my sleep.
