Hiring manager tells new hire her first day of work is Monday, September 22nd, fires her when she doesn't show up on Tuesday, September 2nd: 'Your employment has been terminated due to not reporting to work on the first day'

There is very little room for big mistakes during the hiring process. If you're 15 minutes late to your first interview, it doesn't really matter if 99.999% of the time you are the most punctual person in the world. The recruiter doesn't know you and has no real reason to believe that you wouldn't be 15 minutes late to every shift if they went forward and hired you.

Sometimes, recruiters being overly discerning in the recruiting process helps protect the company from someone who is a slog to be around. I hate to admit it, but if someone annoys you during a 60-minute conversation, the chances that they'll annoy everyone for years of employment are very high. That can be frustrating for job seekers who don't immediately connect with strangers, but there's little you can do if you're clearly not a culture match. The best thing you can do as a job applicant without a million-dollar personality is to cross your Ts and dot your Is… being professional and courteous goes a long way.

There are aspects of the hiring process that candidates can control, but if a recruiter provides incorrect information that prevents you from attending your first day of work, you truly cannot control that. The new hire in this story received an email stating their first day of work would be September 22nd, but she was fired for not showing up on September 2nd. What a nightmare.
