When people demand pointless things of us, our first instinct is usually to protest and explain to them why their demands make absolutely no sense. We don't want to follow through and waste our time on tasks that contribute nothing, and if only the one who asked for these things will see that, they will leave us alone, right?
Well, we learned that sometimes the best way to show someone that their request are, to put it lightly, horribly stupid, is by simply complying. Do what they wanted enough times, and they will see just how wrong they were to ask it of you.
That is exactly what the retail employee in the story below did. After their boss decided they leave the register "too often", usually to grab change, get more bags, or throw out the trash, the boss demanded that every time that happens, the employee must clock out.
Instead of verbally explaining to the boss why this request makes no sense, the employee decided to show it by following through. It didn't even take the entire shift to make the point across.
