I might be in the minority here, but I think it's okay that they spent however much on a special event like prom. However, the coddling really needs to stop. The problem seems like they've continued buying her whatever she wants and letting her live like a pampered princess months after the agreed upon deadline to find a job. It's time for her to face consequences when she can't keep a promise.
