Coworkers, after working with them for a long time, can start to feel like friends. But, you know what they say: Don't ever mix business with pleasure. You might end up like the defeated employee in this next story, who is being cast out by their formerly-friendly coworker of 10 years, because they handed in their resignation.
The employee gave the company a whopping three-week notice, which they didn't need to do, thinking that would be a sufficient amount of time to transfer any work, knowledge, or data over. Even still, it seems like when they try to do something kind and efficient, they are met with a transgression they don't believe they can bear for the next three weeks.
Truthfully, the largest problem here is that management will not do anything about their coworker's behavior. The coworker is in full "breakdown" mode according to the employee, and goes so far as to refuse to be in the same room as the employee. I don't know about you, but this seems like workplace harassment in its clearest form. Possibly retaliation, too.
