Stepmom uninvited from stepdaughter's college graduation due to years of tension, her dad attends but barely speaks to her afterwards, she questions her decision: 'I'm left wondering if I was cruel'

Milestones like weddings and graduations aren't just an excuse to have a fun and convivial time with family and friends, it's also an opportunity to get the dirty laundry out. Many families implode all because of a wedding, and someone not being invited, or refuses to let your dad walk you down the aisle, or someone being demoted from Maid of Honor to normal guest. 

When I was graduating college, I had my whole family come. In the story below, the protagonist is a 22-year-old woman who has a college graduation coming up. She's always been on icy terms with her stepmom, so due to the day being so meaningful for her, she would rather not celebrate with a woman she doesn't think treats her well. She informs her father, who's greatly disappointed. He attends, but he lets his anger get the better of him and gives his daughter the cold shoulder afterwards.
