Being a geeky girl growing up was no easy experience. For some reason, people in high school assumed that if you loved reading books, you were probably not a fun person to hang around with. So, as a book-loving nerd, I had to make a choice–books or friends. Obviously, I chose books. I didn't want to be friends with people who mocked my love of reading, so most of my friends in those years were, unsurprisingly, characters from my favorite books.

Harry Potter (and the rest of the magical gang) were there for me for most of my high school experience, and I honestly can't complain about a single one of these years. I loved reading, I loved the characters, and I had no problem spending my free time with them instead of unsupportive, boring people. Today, as an adult, I am thankful to be surrounded by people who understand that loving books and enjoying reading is actually a great gift.
