'What’s left is just crumbs and frosting smears': Entitled customer tries to return half-eaten cake to the bakery, throws a fit when employee refuses

There is an art and a science to getting a refund. I am one of those people who, upon receiving a faulty product from an online order, usually decides to cut my losses and not pursue a refund. This might stem from residual annoyance from working in customer service roles, where people would often demand refunds, regardless of whether they deserved them. It's more likely that I simply don't want to be on hold with a customer service representative for hours at a time, and if that means losing out on $19.99, that's okay with me.

Of course, not everybody is that way, and that's fine! My roommate will try to get a refund on stuff she buys all the time, even if there's nothing technically wrong with the product. If she realizes she doesn't like the color of a shower caddy, she'll at least try to get a refund, and I respect that about her. She doesn't berate the customer service people if she can't get a refund, but she'll at least put in the effort to get her money back when it's clear she is not going to use the product.

There's a significant difference between returning a shower caddy that has never been used and returning a perishable item that has been mostly consumed. A woman recently tried to return a half-eaten cake to a bakery, expecting to receive a replacement. She was shocked that her demand wasn't catered to, and threatened to expose the bakery on social media. Luckily, the bakery employee got to expose her on social media first.
