What was the weirdest reaction your boss ever had to you quitting your job?
I've heard stories of bosses who have silently refused to acknowledge someone giving their notice for an entire four-week notice period, choosing instead to wait until the very last moment to acknowledge that they are going to have to find a replacement. Then, going into a full panic and asking the employee if they might consider staying a little bit longer.
And, I'm sure this happens all the time. It is, after all, human nature to want to ignore the things that we should be giving our urgent attention to. At any rate, there seems to be a theme of resorting to denial when a company doesn't want to acknowledge that it has the difficult task of finding someone with less organizational knowledge to perform the same task less efficiently for more money. Shame they didn't try harder to keep that employee while they had them.
This boss, however, took denial to the point of absolute delusion by outright refusing to acknowledge or accept her employee's two-week notice, continuing to assign the employee projects that they would never even see the beginning stages of, and scheduling them for meetings three weeks in the future—a full week after their notice period was to end. Whenever the employee attempted to explain to their boss that they wouldn't be there any longer, she either brushed off the issue or said, "We'll see about that."
Bewildered, the employee shared their story, seeking advice on what they should be doing about the situation.
