Boy mom forces son's 17-year-old girlfriend of 2.5 years to do chores while she's at their house, sits between the couple on the couch while watching movies: 'I'm pretty sure she adores me!!'

I am so grateful that my parents were incredibly hands-off with my high school relationships. That might be because I intentionally hid 99% of my dating life from my parents, as I didn't want them to take my ability to date away from me. However, I'll give credit where credit is due. They never forbade me from going to a suspicious sleepover or insisted that they come along with me on dates. At the time, I wished they were a little more invested in my dating life, but in hindsight, I had a pretty swell arrangement going.

I'd take a mom who doesn't care who I'm going to prom with over a mom who is obsessed with the person I'm dating. Parents who are obsessed with their kid's boyfriend or girlfriend usually aren't obsessed because they think they're so swell. They have a complex about what their kid's dating means for their kid and them. It can spur a lot of anxiety about their kids growing up and not relying on them as much. They can also freak out about that ever-present thing that people do when they're boyfriend-girlfriend. No matter the cause of the neuroses, a parent shouldn't project it onto their kid and their boyfriend or girlfriend.

The mom in this story is so ridiculous, I can't tell if she's a parody or not. She is so neurotic about her teenage son and his girlfriend of 2.5 years that she tracks her location, makes her do chores, and sits between the young couple when they watch movies on the family couch.
