In this instance, this author had a roommate who consistently ate bits and pieces of their food when the author wasn't looking. They had discussed this numerous times. However, the author could never have guessed that the roommate would go so far as to eat their entire birthday cake in one sitting before the author even got a slice of her own. That kind of behavior is so outrageous that not even the previous occurrences could have been considered proven signs that he would be that selfish.

Thankfully, the author was not going to let it slide. She decided that she couldn't get even by eating some of his food. After all, it doesn't seem like this guy is the type of roommate who even has food of his own. So she went back to the drawing board and brainstormed better ways to hit him where it would really hurt.
