Here's a little trivia that might blow your mind if you didn't already know it: the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was basically a Frankenstein's monster of a TV show. Haim Saban bought the rights to a Japanese series called Super Sentai, cut out all the wild action scenes with the Rangers in costume, and then spliced in brand new American footage of a group of teens hanging out in Angel Grove. The result? A show that only sort of made sense - but somehow worked anyway.
And let's be honest, we didn't care that Rita's lips never matched the dialogue, or that the Megazord battles looked like Godzilla cosplay on a tight budget. We were obsessed. Power Rangers ruled the playground in the 90s. Every kid had a favorite Ranger, every kid practiced the morphing sequence in the mirror, and every kid made their parents regret buying them those plastic swords.
These 35 behind the scenes and publicity photos of the original cast capture the magic, the cheesiness, and the pure Saturday morning glory of it all. Go go nostalgia trip.
