I learned this firsthand recently when my car was totaled by a driver who hit it while it was parked on the street. I wasn’t even in the thing. To make it worse, I was visiting a friend in another state, so instead of enjoying the trip, I got to get a great tour of town by visiting the local police station, the tow yard, and the rental car company. None of it was convenient, and all of it was expensive.
So when I read this story about a mechanic trying to squeeze an extra $300 out of a customer who had already set a hard $1,000 budget, I felt the pain. Thankfully, this customer easily called his bluff.
