'She said it “would ruin the vibe”': Entitled bride forbids cousin from bringing her service dog to her childless wedding, family takes cousin's side and tells her she's overreacting

We're currently in the midst of planning our own wedding, and the wedding stress is real. You have so many people making requests to do things on your wedding day that it just feels completely overwhelming. Your dad wants to make a speech, your mom wants a first dance, you need to make sure you get pictures with person A, B, cousin C, and your great aunt Bertha, whom you last saw 12 years ago. At a certain point, you just want to tell them all no and focus on what you want, but that's no way to treat your family. The wedding is partly for them as well.

However, one thing we would never do is refuse a family member their right to bring their service dog. Just like we wouldn't forbid our grandma from bringing her oxygen tank, or our best friend from wearing his glasses. Service animals aren't pets; they are very cute medical assistants that we wish we could pet and tell them how much of a good boy/girl they are, but we know we can't. They worked really hard to get their service status, and we're not going to ruin it for them.

When the entitled bride below forbade her cousin from bringing her service dog, we couldn't help but feel her rage. Her reasons felt so superficial, and it seemed like she didn't understand the difference between a service animal and a pet. On top of that, her family took her cousin's side!She ended up refusing to go, and we say more power to her.

How would not taking her medication help? Believe us, we understand the whole “wedding brain” phenomenon, but this is going a few steps too far. A real, trained service dog would not make any interruptions whatsoever. It would be happy to lie at its owner's feet until it was released.

Not going to lie, this response feels a little extreme to us. We don't think that the people in this story are still beyond reasoning with (maybe the bride) and to do a full family cutoff is a big decision, and potentially a final one. This should be an absolute last resort after diplomacy has failed multiple times. Once you burn a bridge, it takes a lot of time and effort to build it again.
