While we might talk a lot about something living "rent-free in our head," the last thing you want is someone living rent-free in your home, especially when that person has proven to be an unreliable and even destructive house guest. But when your 36-year-old brother wants to move into your place and live there rent-free, it's almost like something out of a sitcom or mid-2000s comedy blockbuster, especially when that brother has a proven habit of not taking care of the places where he is staying.

I probably wouldn't let him set foot over the threshold to my home once he had proven to be a dishonest and destructive guest to two family members homes, so we wouldn't have even been reaching a point where there was a conversation to be had about him paying rent—he wouldn't have been there in the first place.
