I briefly worked in the restaurant industry. It was short-lived, not because of the hours, my aching feet, or the abysmal pay; it was because I couldn't stand the customers. For some reason, restaurant goers seem to lose all decorum when they head out into the fine dining world, and suddenly every server, hostess, and bartender must bow down at their feet as they pass. I, for one, couldn't stand being a human doormat to the dining world, so I high-tailed it out of there, just like the woman in this story.
