    Some parents think they can insert themselves into everything, but when you're an adult making your own decisions, there is only so much they can do. Many of us have grown up developing a fear of disappointing our parents. It's something that will inevitably happen, and ideally, something you don't want to happen all too often. Of course, in a perfect world, everything you do will make them proud. 

    When you become an adult, you might be hoping for those fears to go away, but unfortunately, they never do. In fact, you might find yourself making certain life choices based on what your parents may think or want, and that can cause more damage than if you followed your own gut instincts. When it comes to choosing your career or a significant other or how you want your wedding to be, you might find yourself trying to please a parent more than you're actually trying to please yourself. It's only a matter of time before dynamics like this start to unravel, and it's usually during the biggest events.

    For this author, that inevitable moment when all the tension rises to the surface finally happened, unsurprisingly, during wedding planning.
