Sometimes, I'll see a meme that encapsulates exactly how it feels not only to be me, but to be a woman. No, I'm not talking about those "when your lipgloss runs out :(" memes that are slightly sexist in nature—I'm talking about the mini neuroses that women have every day. An example of this is when I got the flu and couldn't leave my house, but I went so stir crazy that I DoorDashed bleach and oner from Sally Beauty so I can bleach my hair… Yeah, that might not be a universal experience, but I'm sure it's happened to at least one of you. I hope…
These "Aha!" moments happen to me frequently. When I realize most of women are all living somewhat parallel lives, it comforts me. What once made me feel alone and isolated, now made me feel even more at home and comfortable in my life as a woman. Isn't that the sole function of memes? To build community and laugh with each other rather than at each other?
Either way, nothing compares to realizing you're just a girl. In a world that begs you to be something else, just be yourself. There is something so powerful about intentionally leaning into your femininity without letting people walk all over you—and that, ladies, is womanhood at it's finest.
