When you're in a loving relationship, you may wonder why your single friends aren't dating so much. They talk about wanting to find their soul mate, but they won't touch dating apps. "Why not?" you wonder from the comfort of your loving romantic relationship. Well listen up, pal. I'll tell you: It's because first dates are often the worst.

Perhaps love is just difficult in general. They say you know when you know, and that's so true, bestie. But it's also true that I always know within like, 5 minutes of a first date if I'm going to go out with that person again, and I don't think I'm the only one who gets that gut feeling. Because as much as we want dates to go right, far more often they just go wrong. Some people just talk for the entire date without ever letting you get a word in edgewise. Other folks throw up red flags, like ordering your meal for you, telling you about their exes and why they dislike their parents, or planning out a full future with a person they've known in person for 15 minutes. All of these things have happened to me now, and this is why people avoid dating at all costs. "I'm tapping out! I can't do it!" I tell my friends. But then I get bored and go check out the dating apps again, because clearly I'm a hopeless romantic who will never learn their lesson.

At least I'm in good company! Some of the people below had bad dates, on or off of dating apps. Maybe all of us will just stay single forever rather than go on one more date that ends with, "Hey, I had a nice time but…"
