If your favorite movie doesn't start with a Fellowship and end with a Return of the King, you can go ahead and get out of here right now. The Lord of the Rings has proven over the last 23 years that it's the most aptly created book adaptation of all time. Name one other book-to-movie media that even comes close—exactly, you can't even think of one other competitor.
That said, after your trillionth rewatch of LOTR, it seems like the jokes are still funny, you still cringe when Gollum crawls on screen, and the Hobbit theme will always make the back of your throat tickle a little bit. This is what's called in the cinema world as "complete and utter perfection." Now I'm not sure if Hollywood will ever remake the movies, but if they did, it would likely be as disastrous as HBO's Harry Potter remake or the Gladiator reboot.
In my lifetime, if there's never another LOTR, my soul will be pleased, because LOTR doesn't need a remake, it doesn't need MORE content squeezed out from it. It's already perfect in and of itself.
